A FOODIE’S GUIDE TO SAN JOSE DEL CABO

San Jose del Cabo is what we like to call the crown jewel of the Baja. A quaint, historical town steeped in culture and character, San Jose is a stark contrast to the spring break-style hustle and bustle of nearby Cabo San Lucas and offers visitors a chance to experience some of the region's finer stylings (think cover-worthy vacation rentals!). From world-renowned golf courses and thought-inspiring art galleries to aquatic adventures and first-class entertainment, San Jose is a smorgasbord of the finer things in life, offering the cultured traveler all they need to jam-pack their itinerary. And what’s at the top of our list? Savoring Baja’s famous cuisine is a must! Sit back, relax and enjoy our foodie’s guide to San Jose del Cabo.

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Mexico? Tacos! So let’s taco’ bout it! Located in the heart of San Jose’s gallery district, La Lupita Tacos and Mezcal is a lazy, scenic drive from our luxury villa Los Cabos Casa Bellamar. The relaxed, contemporary menu is all about Mexican staples with a distinctly local twist. Think traditional barbacoa with a secret “borracha” sauce and breaded Baja scallops with mint, cucumber, and Chipotle mayo. La Lupita offers just the right number of options without overwhelming and live music to boot! Visit on the weekends and turn dinner into a lot more, Baja style!

Stomach rumbling after a day shopping San Jose’s historic downtown? Kick back and relax at Los Tres Gallos courtyard restaurant, where authenticity with none of the pretentious sides is the name of the game. Located just a short car ride from some of the most exclusive vacation villas Los Cabos has to offer, their menu can only be described as a guided journey through the region’s favorite flavors, and our shout-out goes to the staple tortilla soup and homegrown enchiladas de mole (taste buds blown!). Expect an enchanting atmosphere, fantastic service, and backpocket-friendly prices.

When spending the weekend in a luxury villa Los Cabos, needing to escape might seem like an oxymoron. But if you’re feeling the need to explore the outdoors, Tamarindos Mexican Farm to Table Restaurant is, quite literally, a breath of fresh air. Nestled on the site of a 19th-century sugar cane plantation, Tamarindo’s culinary creations feature ingredients grown and raised on site, meaning your meal is always the freshest of fresh, guaranteed. Tamarindo’s menu changes based on seasonal availability, so even the repeat diner is treated to a unique experience every visit. Our pick of the crop? The Wood Oven Baked Whole Fish with parsley, pepper flakes, and (of course!) garlic, and the melt-in-your-mouth homemade gelato. Bitten by the culinary bug? Ask about the interactive cooking classes and make a day of it.

An oldie but a goodie! Flora Farms is an East Cape icon and a favorite of locals, ex-pats, and the celebrity crowd. Also devotees of the farm-to-table experience, a trip to Flora Farms is much more than a meal. Take a walking tour, visit the spa, or busy those brains with cooking or art classes before enjoying lunch or dinner amongst the trees. While the menu is seasonal, Flora Farms is famous for its fruit and vegetable-infused craft cocktails (yay, mixology!) and its scrumptious slices from Mama’s Pizzeria. Property managers at all nearby vacation rentals can help you book a table and you Will. Go. Back!

Arguably the Baja’s trendiest dining experience, Acre Baja is a contemporary gem tucked away amongst the lushness that is the East Cape. Famously featured in Forbes, The New York Times, and Food & Wine magazine, Acre has earned its spot at the top. People watch as you sip signature cocktails to live music and dine on creations that pare back fine dining in just the right way. Top it all off with a nightcap under the stars. Acre has four award-winning, signature Mezcals to choose from.
